Then Sings My Soul

I have been around the church all of my life — with some periods of wandering.  Even in those periods, music has been a balm to my soul  and one of my primary ways to praise and worship.

When I was younger, I sang on our church worship team and always had dreams about singing in a group.  That never happened — life sometimes seems to get in the way of our dreams and our life often takes paths we didn’t anticipate — but God “knows the plans He has for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11 paraphrased).  So I know that I am exactly where God wants me to be and even though I am not directly involved with music as a singer, I still love music and it still reaches my heart in a special way.

God gave me a love for music and a desire to write about songs — the lyrics, the stories behind them, the scriptures that inspired them and the effect they have on my heart and soul.  I’m not sure what God has for me to say through this journey but this is my way of honoring His nudge on my heart and maybe helping all of us see songs in a different way.   Because as I listen to the timeless old hymns and newer contemporary Christian music, I feel the Holy Spirit stirring my heart then sings my soul.

I hope you’ll take this journey with me.
